Terms & Conditions
The terms that apply to your use of Borrowiz.
Last updated: August 20, 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Borrowiz ("the Service"). By registering an account, accessing the Service, or using any part of it, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) and be a member of an apartment community or other community served by the Service to create an account. By registering, you confirm that the details you provide are accurate.
3. Your account
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that happens under your account. Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
You may be asked to provide your flat number and a phone number. This information helps other members and library staff coordinate lending and is visible to your community as described in our Privacy Policy.
4. Community membership
Your account is linked to a community. Community admins, librarians, and moderators may manage members and the community library in accordance with the Service's rules. Moderation decisions, including restricting or suspending a member, are made by the community and are not controlled by the Service operators.
5. Responsible use and prohibited conduct
You agree to use the Service lawfully and respectfully. You must not:
- Create a false identity, misrepresent yourself, or register multiple accounts to avoid moderation.
- Harass, threaten, or discriminate against other members.
- Post content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or infringes on the rights of others.
- Attempt to access another member's account or data, or interfere with the operation of the Service.
- Use the Service to misappropriate books, copies, or other members' property.
6. Lending and borrowing
The Service is a coordination tool only. It helps members list copies, request borrows, and track returns, but the actual transfer of physical books and puzzles happens between members directly.
- Books and puzzles remain the property of their owner (or of the library, for library-owned copies).
- You are responsible for returning borrowed items on time and in the condition you received them.
- Lenders set their own availability and may decline requests; the Service does not force any lending.
- Damaged or lost items are a matter between the members involved. The Service does not arbitrate disputes or insure items.
7. Donations
When you donate a book, you offer it to your community's library. Once accepted, the donated copy becomes part of the library's inventory and is managed by library staff. Donations of non-book items, such as puzzles, are not supported by the donation flow.
8. Reputation and moderation
The Service calculates reputation and trust scores based on your activity, such as returns, reviews, and community feedback. These scores are informational and may affect features such as auto-approval. Community moderators may restrict or suspend members who violate community rules.
9. Intellectual property
The Service software, its branding, and its original content are provided under open-source terms as described below. Book metadata, covers, and descriptions displayed through the Service belong to their respective owners or providers and are used for informational purposes only.
10. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party providers, including Open Library and Google Books for catalog metadata and email delivery providers for notifications. Your searches may be sent to those catalog providers as described in our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the operation or availability of these third-party services.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
Free software — no warranty
Borrowiz is free software. It is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. It does not come with any guarantee.
The Service is a coordination tool for community book lending. We do not guarantee the availability, accuracy, completeness, or condition of any book, copy, listing, review, reputation score, or community. Your use of the Service, and any reliance on it or on other members, is entirely at your own risk.
In particular, we do not guarantee that any item will be available when requested, that listings are accurate, that messages are delivered or answered, or that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operators and contributors of Borrowiz shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages — including lost books, damaged property, lost profits, or loss of data — arising from your use of the Service or from interactions with other members, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Because the Service is free software and is offered without warranty, your sole remedy for any issue is to stop using the Service.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notifying you. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Service operator is established, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that jurisdiction.
